Being tonight’s MC, I introduced our first performer Jonathan Klein to the audience. Jonathan sang URC (Ubiquitous Rock Chick), “Under African Skies” by Paul Simon, and Gordon Lightfoot’s “If You Could Read My Mind”. Next up was Mike Cole. On his accordion, he performed “Scotland The Brave/Marie’s Wedding”, “Farewell To Tarwathie” by Judy Collins and the traditional “Rochester Recruiting Sergeant”.

Then it was time for our guest of the evening, Robert Lane. His first set included; “Feels Like 5000 miles”, “To Love Somebody” by Barry Gibb, “Teardrop Tatoo” and “Make It Easy”.
After the break and raffle, Bimbling took to the stage. Hannah Snellgrove and Sean Brophy played Skinny Lister’s “Plough & Orion”, “What Are You Listening To?” by Chris Stapleton, and Hannah’s “Fiddler’s Race”. Following Bimbling, our second accordionist of the night.
Laura Sunderland performed one of her own compositions “Jogging Along”, “Island of Dreams”, “Island In The Sun”, and “Eriskay Love Lilt”.
It was then my pleasure to introduce (for the first time!)… Carole West! She sang “Plaisir d’Amour” composed by Jean-Paul-Égide Martini, Richard Thompson’s “Dimming Of The Day”, and “There But For Fortune” by Phil Ochs. The last support act of the evening were Nomad.
Heather & Alan Slipper sang a song about the nitrate trade in South America, Karan Casey’s “The King’s Shilling” and “The Great Divide” by Kate Wolf.
And finally, Robert’s second set which included; “One Of Those Guys”, “Wilful Independent”, “Lost But I Can’t See”, “Been Us”, McCartney’s “For No-one”, “I Like Swimming”, “Pessimistic Me” and “My Love’s In Deep”.
A great end to the evening. Next time, 19th October “Musical Maidens”, an evening for the ladies to shine.
